Hello

Brenna Brom, owner of 'It's a Whimsical Life,' is a Minnesota native living in Rochester, MN. She has been creating whimsical art since 2016 and it’s been fun to watch her work evolve over time. Brenna’s artwork often features playful nature-like themes, sweet treats, and advocate for mental health and body positivity. She hopes her art brings people joy, whether that's a light sprinkle or a joyful slap to the face. Brenna also teaches group fitness classes, run various children and adult art programs in her local community, and is a mother to a lively 4-year-old son.

Artist Statement

My path to becoming a full time artist has not been all sunshine and rainbows. As a kid, I was diagnosed with Tourette Syndrome and OCD. Over the years, I’ve also struggled deeply with my own mental health, addiction, and chronic pain. I’ve fought against these “things”—and a few times, they almost won. In those moments, I realized I had to make a choice. A seemingly easy choice, but far from it: to ask for help. To go to therapy. To leave unhealthy jobs. To work on being a better human, mom, and partner. To pursue joy. To live—and to create art.

Art has been a constant in my life—whether quietly waiting at the bottom to help me grow, or right beside me through all of life’s ups and downs. I believe my work is so vibrant because I’ve faced darkness—and chose to respond with color. The ugly parts of life are always going to be there, so why not turn them into something more? Something full of life. Something magical and whimsical.

Alongside my acrylic paintings, I also create funny, colorful mental health affirmations that mix swearing with self-compassion. These pieces say the hard things in a way that makes people laugh and feel seen. They’re bold and honest—but in a cutesy way. I share my artwork and my story because it helps me heal and grow. And I hope it brings you a little joy, a little laughter, and the reminder that you’re not alone.
